MLS and Soccer United Marketing have hired longtime media industry PR exec Sal Petruzzi as VP/Corporate Communications. Petruzzi, who was recognized by SBJ as a Power Player among communicators and storytellers, will begin Dec. 10 (three days after the end of the 2024 MLS season). He most recently worked as a strategic advisor for Horizon Sports & Experiences, a sports marketing agency launched by co-CEOs David Levy and Chris Weil in 2022.

Petruzzi is a longtime Levy lieutenant, having spent about 16 years at Turner under his leadership from 2003-19. He spent three years at Fox from 2020-23 prior to joining HS&E. Petruzzi started his career at DKC and worked at A&E prior to his long run with Turner.

In his new role, Petruzzi will report to MLS EVP/Communications Dan Courtemanche and oversee corporate communications strategy for partnership marketing, brand alliances, emerging ventures, consumer products, social/digital media and community engagement. He fills a role vacated in August by Angela Alfano, who left the league due to a personal family situation.
