The Univ. of Nebraska athletic department generated more than $200M in revenue during FY23 for the "first time in its history," according to Sam McKewon of the OMAHA WORLD-HERALD. Nebraska generated $204,831,356 in revenue between July 1, 2022, and June 30, 2023. That figure is $61M more than the $143M generated in FY22. Nebraska officials said that the majority of that gap can be attributed to nearly $61M in "contributions from fans and boosters related to" the department’s new $165M football building . During FY23, the department also operated at an eight-figure surplus -- totaling $13,956,972 -- but athletic facility debt service, related to the new building, increased by more than $22M. Nebraska’s football program still generated a “massive surplus” of just over $50M, while both men’s basketball and volleyball "also produced a surplus." Volleyball is expected to “produce a much bigger surplus” in FY24 thanks to the Volleyball Day in Nebraska Memorial Stadium match ( OMAHA WORLD-HERALD, 1/26 ).
