Foxtel , the Australia -based pay-TV service in which News Corp . is the majority owner, will be WWE ’s exclusive home in the country starting later this year, reports SBJ's John Ourand . A formal announcement is coming today. Financial details were not revealed.
The deal is structured similarly to WWE’s Peacock deal, with Foxtel’s streaming platform, Binge , carrying WWE’s premium live events ( WrestleMania , Royal Rumble , SummerSlam , etc.) as part of a monthly Binge subscription. All WWE Network content, from documentaries to archived matches, also will be available on Binge.
Foxtel has pledged to launch a linear TV channel with WWE content later this year. The linear TV channel, Fox 8 , will simulcast the WWE’s premium live events and show reairs. It also will continue to carry WWE shows Raw , SmackDown and NXT .
This deal is significant as it continues an already strong relationship between WWE and News Corp. In the U.S. , of course, Fox carries WWE’s SmackDown. Plus, WWE set up an NFT partnership with Fox Entertainment ’s Blockchain Creative Labs .
