Brittney Griner confronted by man at airport

Mercury C Brittney Griner was confronted at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport on Saturday “by a right-wing social media personality who berated her about her release from a Russian prison.” Alex Stein posted video of himself shouting “Do you still want to boycott America, Brittney?” as well as “She hates America” and “What about the merchant of death, Brit?” WNBA Exec Dir Terri Jackson said that players “contacted her as the situation unfolded.” Stein’s video “shows him being moved away as Griner and her teammates can be seen walking closely behind.” The Mercury lost to the Dallas Wings on Friday and were traveling to Indianapolis, where they are set to play the Indiana Fever on Sunday. Griner “is approved to use chartered flights for games this season as a safety protocol.” Teams, however, “are not permitted to use chartered flights and must regularly walk through the airport alongside the general public” ( WASHINGTON POST, 6/10 ).
