Washington Spirit owner Michele Kang said that she will “keep buying” women's soccer teams in Asia, South America and elsewhere to “ help the game grow beyond the U.S. and Europe.” Kang has been a “revolutionary in markets all over the world” as soccer, just a few years ago, had most owners “operating their clubs on a shoestring.” Kang said, “I really am doing this because I want people to wake up and say, ‘This is a good investment.’ This is seed capital. I want more people to come in.” She has already “shelled out” $35M on the Spirit . Kang: “Everyone thought that I was crazy, right?” ( WALL STREET JOURNAL, 11/23 ).
