COMING TOMORROW

Episode 1 of SBJ's "Inside the Industry" is now on YouTube.

Broncos create in-house construction VP role; more facilities investment on the way?

I was recently in Denver and stopped by Empower Field at Mile High to see a venue that I’ve been writing about regularly. I was shown around by the stadium’s GM Jay Roberts, as well as Zach Myhra (senior director/construction, facilities and planning) and Megan Boyle (senior manager/strategic communications).

Near the end of the tour, I asked them what the team was thinking in terms of its future at Mile High (the Broncos’ lease ends in 2031), especially given the new, deep-pocketed ownership group's willingness to invest in facilities (more than $250 million committed in just two years).

The response was essentially, “We’re assessing our options.”

Beyond just the lease, the team hasn’t been communicating with the city about a mixed-use development plan crafted before the pandemic, according to a July report . And CAA Icon is no longer helping the team with its training facility project after the Broncos hired Amy Dee as their new SVP/construction (she’s a former facilities exec at Netflix).

That’s the kind of job a team brings in-house when they’re planning sustained construction projects.

Keep an eye on Denver.
