Longtime Spurs TV play-by-play voice Bill Land is "officially stepping away from the mic," retiring after 21 seasons of broadcasting Spurs games alongside color analyst Sean Elliott . The announcement comes after Land was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a rare blood cancer, in 2023. Land "worked much of last season while undergoing treatment" for the disease. The team has announced "plans to honor Land" at the regular-season home opener Oct. 26 against the Rockets. The Spurs "have not announced plans regarding who might take over for Land during the upcoming season." Land joined the Spurs broadcast team as a fill-in announcer in 1990. He gained a more prominent role with the club in 2003 before being named lead play-by-play announcer in 2008 ( SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 8/21 ).
