Gatorade is adding to its soccer roster ahead of the Paris Games, signing USWNT and NWSL Portland Thorns F Sophia Smith to a deal. Smith joins fellow USWNT player Mallory Swanson as a Gatorade endorser. Gatorade also has a deal with USMNT star Christian Pulisic. The signing of Smith is the latest for Gatorade after the PepsiCo-owned brand recently signed Mavericks G Luka Doncic and U.S. women’s basketball and WNBA Las Vegas Aces F A’ja Wilson (Team USA is sponsored by rival Coca-Cola).
SBJ’s Rachel Axon in her Paris Olympics preview this week lists Smith as one of Team USA’s athletes to watch from a corporate-sponsor perspective. Smith is repped by Wasserman’s Richard Motzkin and has deals with Chipotle , Clif Bar, Xfinity, Google Pixel, Reese’s , Nike and Truly. The Thorns earlier this year made Smith the highest-paid player in the NWSL . She also was among a handful of athletes to make the most-recent TIME100 list .
