Hurricane Beryl "may have damaged" NRG Stadium as it made its way through the Houston area, as there "appears to be hole in a grooved portion of the venue's retractable roof." Stadium officials indicated that they were "waiting for a full assessment to disclose a damage report." Wind gusts were tracked at nearly 60 mph "for the NRG Park area during Beryl's arrival." The stadium in 2008 suffered "extensive damage" from Hurricane Ike ( ABC13.com, 7/9 ).
Meanwhile, Minute Maid Park "avoided any major damage" and is set to host tonight's Marlins-Astros game as scheduled. The storm caused some "cosmetic harm outside of the ballpark, including snapping a tree in half" that subsequently "fell on gating outside parking for the Diamond Club." The team claimed all debris "will be cleaned up" prior to tonight's first pitch ( HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 7/9 ).
Shell Energy Stadium, which houses both the Dynamo and NWSL Dash, "sustained minor damages ... including damage to external fencing and scattered debris." It is scheduled to host a Dynamo 2 match on Thursday ( HOUSTON BUSINESS JOURNAL, 7/9 ).
