The ATP’s Carbon Tracker app garnered 201 player users and tracked 6.55 million kilometers of travel (1,722 tons of carbon) in its first year of use, according to data provided by the ATP.
Developed through a partnership with Infosys and launched in June, the app allows players to track their travel to tournaments, purchase carbon credits from Gold Standard (another ATP partner) and compete with other players on a weekly leaderboard. The top three players on the year-end leaderboard, which is formulated based on a combination of tournament trips/CO2 offset and scores on educational quizzes within the app, split a $100,000 prize pool to be donated to the environmental sustainability initiative of their choosing. This year, those players were Mackenzie McDonald, Ben Shelton and Cameron Norrie.
In all, the ATP said the Carbon Tracker app helped players offset 583 trips. It will be deployed again for the 2024 season.
