The National Rugby League's "bold venture" into the U.S. is officially going ahead after the NRL "chose the four sides that will participate in the historic 2024 season opener:" South Sydney Rabbitohs, Sydney Roosters, Manly Sea Eagles and Brisbane Broncos. The teams will "participate in a double-header at the 65,000 seat Allegiant Stadium" in Las Vegas. The matches "mark the first time that competition games, save for those played in New Zealand, have ever been staged outside of Australia." NRL CEO Andrew Abdo "thanked the participating teams for their proposals" and "acknowledged NRL broadcast partners for their strong support and commitment" to the concept. South Sydney and Manly are "in a unique promotional position" given Manly fan Hugh Jackman and South Sydney fan Russell Crowe are "prepared to help spruik the event" ( SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 8/11 ).
