Texas A&M recorded a profit of $6.5M combined from hosting an international soccer match between Mexico and Brazil on June 8 and a George Strait concert on June 15, according to Brent Zwerneman of the HOUSTON CHRONICLE. Texas A&M AD Trev Alberts yesterday said the soccer match raised $2.6M and the concert raised $3.9M. The Strait performance “set an American ticketed concert record” with 110,905 fans and “more than 85,000 fans” attended the soccer match the week prior ( HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 8/13 ). In Texas, Alex Miller reported the concert was the “largest-attended event in Kyle Field’s history,” surpassing the 2014 A&M football game against Ole Miss that drew 110,633 fans. A&M officials have previously said they “expect more of these kinds of large-scale, non-football events to come to Kyle Field in the future." However, they indicated yesterday that there is "currently no entertainment contracts signed to host events" at the stadium ( Bryan-College Station EAGLE, 8/13 ).
