The Univ. of Wisconsin unveiled this morning Kohl Center game day improvements that will be ready this fall, including the reduction of its ice sheet to NHL dimensions , which makes room for new Badgers basketball and hockey premium seating. Kohl Center was one of only five NCAA Division I men’s ice hockey arenas with a rink size larger than 200-by-92 feet. Reducing the size gives the venue’s operators six more feet with which to create rink-side seating for hockey (134 seats) and club seating (188) behind the team benches for basketball.
The premium seating can include access to a new premium club space on the event level known as the Krantz Club (opening in January 2025); all-inclusive food and non-alcoholic beverages; a full-service cash bar; wider, padded seats; and enhanced parking priority. Berner Schober designed the seating section and club, while Cullen is the contractor.
The new seating offering is the latest in a line of improvements to the 26-year-old Kohl Center, including new locker rooms, strength and conditioning spaces, sports medicine and rehab rooms, a dining hall and nutrition room, academic support facilities, new offices for the coaching staff and a hockey shooting room. Later this summer, Wisconsin athletics will circulate a survey among Badgers fans to gather more input about the future Kohl Center fan experience.
